Unblessed are Those

a single soul stands alone
in doubt
and tests God direct.
"where art Thou
One who claims being?"

a hole opens,
a tear in the fabric of flesh.
the earth shatters to a billion slivers,
and the eye of the lone skeptic beholds
the universe emptied.

God discloses His face
brighter than fusion of all the stars,
particles themselves dissolve,
and speaks:
"I am"

then a mend is made.
intense warmth and blinding vision
subsides in a moment.
the fragments of the earth
again become whole under feet.

the lonely one
just there in the cold breeze left,
knowing, no longer doubting,
but no more saved,
for knowledge is scant aside faith.
