Poem for the Students 1
Each spoke, glistening
a little,
each a little aware of bits of light
breaking into their broken lives
but entirely unaware of the brightening.
Each pretend, from underneath despair
to have obtained safety
when experience had long ago revealed
the metallic cold nature of the real.
Dare, all of you, to dream again
to beam into your personal darkness
your wishfully forgotten nightmares
the light you doubt you possess.
Into the lap of the Light
lay your head.
